hot bed January 6, 2009 hot bed (chicago) Would highly recommend a heated matress pad. It's cold in Chicago and this is the answer
Heated Mattress Pad January 6, 2009 Susan D. Wilson (Vancouver, BC) Makes getting into a cold bed a thing of the past. Dual controls allow for both of us to have the bed at the temperature we prefer. Heats up quickly. Installation was a breeze. No more cold feet!
We've used this for only a little while December 29, 2008 Barbara J. Norman I loved this when it first came. So much warmer than the electric blanket we have. However, the lights on one of the controls (mine, of course), soon started flashing on and off and I couldn't even turn it off without unpluging it. It was also heating erratically. Guess I'm going to have to send it back-- boy I hate to have to send things back!
Excellent, high quality product December 24, 2008 John Kenney (Boston, MA) I've never owned a heated mattress pad before, but now I am a lifelong convert! This is great stuff. This particular mattress pad seems to be of the highest quality. The electric cabling / power cords are very heavy duty and solid. The gizmos for adjusting the temperature are extremely well designed - they have little glow lights so you can see them at night and the adjustment knob is nice and big so you can turn it easily and includes a large, lighted number so you know what setting it is at. The pad fits very nicely on my queen sized bed (old fashioned kind, not the deep mattresses common nowadays). The elastic wrap goes deep under the mattress to hold things snugly in place. I do have 2 slightly negative comments. One is that I found the pad wires to be a bit noticeable when lying on it, so I put the new pad under my old one and that works very nicely. Can't feel them now. And two, the pad is almost too hot. I use it only at setting #1 (lowest) and I am often still warm as the night wears on. We keep the house at 60 in winter and I'm quite thin blooded, so I can't even imagine cranking the thing up to the highest setting. That would be, as others have said, like a full body heating pad. But on the plus side aside from the general quality and performance of the product, I'd add that I think this pad really helps me sleep better and to wake more refreshed in the morning. Reason: I'm totally relaxed and warm all night and not tense and scrunched up from fighting off the cold under 5 layers of blankets. Overall, I give this two big thumbs up!!
not only does this feel good, it's good for the environment December 22, 2008 S. Brusco (Cranston, RI) Think about it. How much would it take to heat your entire home versus just heating 15 square feet directly beneath you while you're sleeping? This product allows you to lower your thermostat more than you normally would at night, and yet you are MORE comfortable. Combine this with an electronic thermostat to automatically turn down the heat at night and when you leave for work, and it's a grand slam for saving fuel. The electronic thermostat also makes it easier to get out of bed in the morning when you set the heat to come on before you wake up. The heated mattress pad is better than an electric blanket because as we all know heat rises. My wife was originally against spending the $85, but now she is totally hooked. It's so much easier to get to sleep quickly when you're not shivering from cold sheets. This product has a pre-heat button to make your bed invitingly warm, and it turns itself off after 10 hours. The manufacturer does not however recommend it for those who are confined to bed. -- Sam Brusco, Certified Green Professional & Certified Aging in Place remodeler, Cranston, RI [...]
